The interior was an architect’s dream. Very calm environment. The welcoming drink and japanese sweets were great.
For a taller dutch person it was slightly inconvenient because i hit my head a couple of times. For my regular length wife this was not a problem at all.

Although it is close to JR Kumamoto Station in the city, it has a quiet and old-fashioned appearance, yet is new, the system is simple, and the welcome drink of local sake is also nice. My privacy was well protected and I felt safe and comfortable. If I have another opportunity, I will use it again.
There was no parking lot attached to the hotel or a convenience store.

Anna-san, the manager is adorable, dedicated and totally available. Kind, warm, professional and warm, she takes care of the spaces with a master hand and makes us feel welcome. The area is quiet but there is the tram 2 minutes away on foot as well as a magnificent gourmet restaurant Uoyoshi 魚よし, to be had (menu between ¥6,000 and ¥16,000)
The windows are not very well insulated and the cold and surrounding noise can be annoying. However, the neighborhood is quiet so it doesn't bother much.

What an unique and beautiful stay in Kumamoto. I specifically wanted to stay at a more traditional setting after spending about 8 nights at typical hotels in Japan. This boutique hotel was absolutely beautiful, and the staff were truly amazing, where we received genuine hospitality. It was a nice touch to offer guests a welcome drink (delicious sake) and a sweet upon arrival. The hotel has 7 rooms (see one of my photos), and 3 of them have shared bath/toilet, while the other four have en-suite bath/toilet. The PJ set provided was also the most comfortable and fitting set I have received during 11 days in Japan. Given it is an old house, do bring good earplugs if you are sensitive to noises. The hotel does remind guests to keep the sound to a minimum after 9 p.m. The location was about a 2-minute walk to the streetcar (which is 1 stop away from the Kumamoto train station) or a 15 to 20-minute walk.
